• What I take away from this story is this: If having paid time off when you have a baby is important to you, then be sure to get a college degree and choose to work for a company that provides paid maternity leave. Otherwise, don't expect it.

• It's reality. Why should we expect employers to pay employees for not working? To be sure, some do, mostly because they don't want to lose valuable employees that they've invested a lot in. But to many employers, hiring someone is a simple contract.

• Well stated, Ashley. BTW, my wife did NOT get paid maternity leave when we had our first, and by the time we had our second, she had decided to stay home and be a full time mother. It was our choice and we had to plan for it accordingly (financially).

• Cniht is blind to the truth. The truth is corporate america is sitting on nearly 3 trillion in cash, they don't need anymore. They could invest in their business and hire more works now if they wanted to. The recession could end today if corporate america decided to end it today.
